The last time we did a visa run, Bri was sick and couldn’t sleep on the 9 hour overnight drive to Penang, Malaysia. The next morning our drivers were arrested for their vans being unregistered in Malayasia. The ‘Visa Run Nightmare’ post I wrote on that experience probably seemed made up, but it wasn’t. Thankfully, this week’s visa run was the exact opposite.
Tip number one, sit in the front row. This was key. The front row has more leg room and even foot rests. It’s almost unfair how much better the front row is.
Tip number two, eat out. Visa runs include the hotel and three meals at the hotel. The buffet is elible but stops there. This time we learned that Penang has some amazing food spots. The Indian food is known for being above average and only a buck or two for a dish. The Western food is even better.
Tip number three, Penang is dirt cheap so go big. A meal is often only 1 USD. A kopi or kopi-c (coffee)is 50 cents. Eat a lot and order more, cause why not?
Tip four, look around. The old part of Penang still has most of its British colonial architecture. It has been restored and the architecture is quaint and many cafes have popped up. Even cooler, some really beautiful street out decorates the old British buildings.
